Ntando Mahlangu is the Men’s 200m T61 Champion! He ran a sensational time of 23.59sec.
South African Paralympian Ntando Mahlangu has added to the long jump gold he won in Tokyo by winning the men’s 200m race in the T61 category, ahead of veteran Richard Whitehead of Great Britain.
Mahlangu, now 19, won silver in the 200m in Rio 2016 and did one better this time, crossing the line in a time of 23.59, ahead of Whitehead and Germany’s Ali Lacin. Whitehead had won the event in Rio, and also in London 2012.
Mahlangu was born with fibular hemimelia, the same condition as Oscar Pistorius was born with, where they had no calf bone in their lower legs. Mahlangu made the decision at age 10 to have his legs amputated, in order to get out of a wheelchair in onto prosthetic legs.
