World Schizophrenia Day (24 May 2026) reminds us that Mental Health matters and that every person deserves to be treated with understanding, kindness and respect. This year’s theme, “Listen, Learn and Support” encourages us to listen to the experiences of people living with Schizophrenia, learn the facts about the condition, and support those affected without judgement.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Schizophrenia affects approximately 23 million people or 1 in 345 people (0.29%) around the world. It is a Mental Health condition that can affect how a person thinks, feels and experiences the world around them. Many people living with Schizophrenia face stigma and misunderstanding, which can make it harder to seek help and feel accepted in their communities.
This World Schizophrenia Day, let us take time to listen with empathy, learn with openness, and support with compassion. By having honest conversations and challenging harmful myths, we can help create a more caring and inclusive society for everyone.
