Every year on the third Friday in May, people around the world participate in Endangered Species Day. A stark reminder the clock is ticking for many of Earth’s most precious creatures.
Some of South Africa’s most vulnerable species include the Cape Vulture, the Pangolin, Pickersgill’s reed frog, the Knysna seahorse, the African wild dog, the golden moles, the Cheetah, African Wild Dog, Rhino, Blue Crane, Riverine Rabbit, and the Oribi buck, just to mention a few.
Let’s turn awareness into action and ensure generations to come have the opportunity to see these remarkable creatures for themselves.
This important day was created to keep us aware of how fragile the existence of some animals, plants, and insects is – and, most importantly, reminds us to take the time to learn about why it’s so important to protect endangered species from any further harm.
